Key Takeaways
BILL and Blackbaud to embed payment processing into Financial Edge NXT for nonprofit & education teams.
Payment Assistant gets invoice processing, approvals, tracking, payments & reconciliation into one workflow.
BILL's network of 9 million businesses aims to simplify vendor enrollment and support faster payments.
BILL Holdings (BILL - Free Report) is strengthening its presence in the nonprofit and education sectors through a new strategic partnership with Blackbaud (BLKB). Under the agreement, BILL’s business payments network and payment-processing capabilities will be embedded into Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT via Payment Assistant, helping simplify accounts payable for nonprofit and education finance teams.
The partnership addresses a persistent operational challenge, where accounts payable often involves manual invoice processing, approval follow-ups and payment administration. According to the Institute of Financial Operations and Leadership’s Accounts Payable Automation Trends 2025 report, nearly half of organizations spend at least 10 hours each week processing invoices and managing payments.
Payment Assistant, powered by BILL, will bring invoice processing, tiered approvals, payment tracking, vendor payments and reconciliation into Blackbaud’s existing financial-management workflow. Financial Edge NXT customers will also gain access to BILL’s network of 9 million businesses, which is expected to simplify vendor enrollment and support faster payments without requiring finance teams to switch between separate applications.
The new capabilities will be introduced through a phased rollout, beginning with an early-adopter program and followed by limited availability for U.S.-based Financial Edge NXT customers. The initial offering will support domestic vendor payments only. BILL has also joined Blackbaud’s Partner program, with additional integrations between the two platforms planned for the future.
Can Partnerships and Payment Scale Broaden BILL’s Growth Runway?
The deal fits BILL’s broader go-to-market strategy of reaching businesses through accounting firms, financial institutions and software companies. Its investor presentation notes that more than 9,500 accounting firms use the BILL platform, while its partners include Oracle NetSuite, Paychex, JPMorgan Chase and Acumatica. BILL also uses embedded partnerships to offer selected platform capabilities through third-party systems.
The partnership also comes against the backdrop of BILL’s growing payment scale. In fourth-quarter fiscal 2026, the company processed approximately $98 billion in payment volume and 37 million transactions, both increasing 14% year over year. Total fiscal 2026 revenues reached $1.65 billion, up 13%, while core revenues increased 16% to $1.50 billion.
The Blackbaud partnership gives BILL another distribution channel into specialized finance workflows while helping Blackbaud automate vendor payments. If adoption expands beyond the initial rollout, the partnership could broaden BILL’s embedded-payments presence and drive transaction activity across its network.
Over the past three months, shares of this Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy) company have increased 11.3% compared with the industry’s 19.3% growth.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Paycom Software’s 2026 EPS has been revised a cent downward to $11.89 over the past month and calls for a 28.7% increase year over year.
The consensus estimate for Paylocity’s full-year fiscal 2027 EPS has been revised 18 cents upward in the past two months to $8.81, which implies a 6% increase from the year-ago period.
